Meeting this Saturday 5th of April 2008 at the reception at 7a.m, why so early? Nobody knows but everybody is glad to go to Kutna Hora, even if nobody knows what Kutna Hora is! Doesn’t matter, we have always had good experience with buddy system’s trips…
So let’s go to the train station of HK by bus, to catch a train and then another train then another train!
Arrival in Kutna Hora at 9a.m or 10a.m, my memories are not clear but I remember our first stop: after 500 meters on foot we stopped next to another group of tourists: in front of us, a huge church, and our guide gave us some information. It was the first Church of the day but not the last one. Now we know that Kutna Hora is the city of Churches!
During the thirteenth and sixteenth century Kutna Hora competed with Prague economically, culturally and politically. Since 1995 the city center has been at UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The road to the old center was long because of the organization of the city…the train station is at the end (or at the beginning) of the town but we spent the time always with very interesting discussions and debates!
Then we visited a very nice place…the cemetery and the ossuary of Kutna Hura…a famous collection of bones contains approximately 60,000 human skeletons which have been artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel.
We had lunch in a traditional restaurant where the waitresses were dressed in very attractive Czech dress!
During the afternoon we discovered the Santa Barbora Cathedral, a very imposing and beautiful building which was built in the end of the 13th century in the gothic style. We enjoyed the interior which was full of decorations.
Our last visit, but not the less interesting was the museum of the silver mine which gained importance during the 13th century. We went with a guide who was able to speak English but with Czech accent. So it was not very clear in our minds all the time and I always tried to understand the legend of the ghost which he explained during our visit! We felt an odd sensation when we were in a gallery where it was possible to enjoy the real darkness.
After a cup of coffee, we came back to Hradec Kralove by train which was quite comfortable and we spent our time with our international and interesting chats.
