A Different Place

Well first I’d like to introduce myself, I am Zane Fuller and I am a student from Norwich University, Vermont, USA and I’m a Computer Science major. For those that don’t know I’m currently doing a semester abroad here in the middle of Europe in Hradec Kralove.

Studying here has been a great experience. It is nice to meet people here from all over the world. I have enjoyed traveling over Europe and throughout the Czech Republic with the ESN BUDDY SYSTEM and with the friends I have made here. From going to the beer factory in Plzen, to testing the wine in Southern Moravia and to the château in Náchod, traveling around has made my experience great. One of the best trips that we went on was to Survival Weekend vol. 3. It was very well organized by the ESN BUDDY SYSTEM; they invited other Erasmus student from other schools to come also. So that was also cool getting to meet other people from the other universities. The theme behind this weekend was Prison Break. So the whole time you’re finding clues on how to escape the prison which means many, many fun activities. There was archery, croquet; some activities involved using your brain which might be hard for some people, just kidding of course. We even did some paintball. Now that’s all fun, but work must come first. I like the university here a lot. Excellent class rooms with computers rising out of the desks and projectors in every room. Has a very nice Relaxation Station where student’s can sit together and have coffee or study or just chat. The computer rooms are also good with software installed on the computers so that a Czech or English speaking person can use them. Now of course though, you can’t attend a university and not experience student life, which is basically partying and then, some more partying. Something that surprised me is that most people here party during the weekdays and especially on Wednesday. In the states we usually have our parties on the weekends. Well, I personally like to party all the time. Another new experience was going to a Czech fire. Basically involves cooking sausages over the fire. I’ve never really cooked sausages over the fire before but instead we cook a delicious treat called s’mores which includes a marshmallow cooked over the fire, chocolate, and a graham cracker.

I only wish that my visit here didn’t have to end but I can proudly say that I have loved and will embrace all my experiences here whether good or bad and remember my semester abroad here forever, my visit here has been awesome and I recommend, no I encourage people to go study abroad.
