“Buddy Trip”

On the 8th of April we had our second Buddy trip of this semester. Our dedicated tourguide Ondra Tikovský was already waiting for us at the meeting point at the Palachova building. Our bus driver for that day was Cenda. 19 students joined us that day to see the beautiful and rich surroundings of the “Bohemian Paradise”.

Our first destination was “Údolí Plakánek”. We were very lucky with the excellent weather! We had the sun, a calm breeze and of course 19 students who were very anxious to go out there….. The bus driver dropped us of and we began “the long walk” into the beautiful environment of “Údolí Plakánek”. Surrounded by beautiful nature, swamps and all sorts of different rock formations we talked and laughed and listened to Ondra’s interesting tails about the past and made notes in our textbooksJ. While we were reaching into the deep and dark forest, Ondra told us about a “hidden castle” which was build in the middle ages and which had been exploited and occupied by the Swedish army quite often! The name of the Castle was “Kost” or in other words “Bone Castle”. After enriching our knowledge about this beautiful and impressive castle we were longing for refreshments so we went towards the castle and had a drink there.  After many laughs and pictures we were picked up again by our bus driver Cenda and we continued our journey in the direction of Hrubá Skála.

On our way to Hrubá Skála we drove past a beautiful castle which was situated on the top of a hill, where the two towers of the castle were build on top of two pointy rocks which stuck out on top of the mountain. I’d like to refer to the castle as “Ali Baba castle”, because I forgot the real name and that was our nickname for the castle! It provided a stunning view but we unfortunately had not enough time to visit the castle as there are too many beautiful things to visit in the “Bohemian Paradise”.

And then we finally arrived at Hrubá Skála. Hrubá Skála is an old castle which was build around 1350 which has a very rich history, and which has been turned into a hotel with a restaurant. It is on top of a hill and contains a very nice view of the surrounding area.  This is where we had our lunch. It took the waiters only one hour to prepare the last 6 dishes which still had to be served while the rest of the group was finished. But nevertheless, it was excellent!! Due to our little delay we had to hurry to the bus because the crème de la crème of the day was being served last!! We went to the castle of Bezděz.

Before you are able to enjoy the castle and its magnificent view you have to climb up first. And so we did. When we arrived at the top, we experienced a breathtaking view, absolutely magnificent! You could see uncountable kilometers far into every direction you looked…. After 20 minutes of enjoying the richness of the location, Ondra asked us to gather around and he started to tell us about the history of the castle and why and for whom it was build, which was a very interesting and also tragic story…. After that, we had to descent our way back of course! When we all safely returned on solid ground, we entered the bus and set sail for Jičín. Here we all had a drink (some even dancedJ) in a pub. This is were the group gave Ondra two bottles of wine and a big box of chocolates to thank him for his outstanding and enthusiastic way of guiding our way through the “Bohemian Paradise”. Next stop was Hradec Kralove.

Cenda thank you for bringing us home safely and last but definitely not least, Ondra!

Ondra thank you so much for being our guide for that day. It was fantastic! You are the best!!!!
