Trip to Dětenice and Škoda factory
On 4/4/2008, we had a trip to Dětenice and Škoda Factory . It took us 40 minutes from Palachova to Dětenice castle. The chateau was built in the 16th century, and it belonged to Křenečtí z Ronova family.
It's a “3- floor architecture”, each floor has its own special purposes. Some of it is for host and hostess' bedroom; the other is for dining and still the other is for studying and so on. Besides, they even had a room for children, I'm really envy about it, because the room is bigger than my flat! (including kitchen and bathroom) Even the child's stool was made of gold!
Let's start from the very beginning, on the ground floor of castle, a set of old armour and several antique cannons were there. Those curios were in a very good condition because of their hard work on protecting those things, taking pictures was not allowed in this castle (even without flesh). The tour guide was a very beautiful young Slavic girl, and she spoke elegantly. I think that's why I don't remember most of the parts of history about this castle during her "beautiful" introduction.
The first floor is for studying and some business purposes. The host of the chateau runs the business of brewing. You can also see a lot of old documents on the wall, of course most of them were for trading beer. Unfortunately, I don't understand the language at all, I wish I could. So far, I only know how to say some greetings such as bye, how are you, thanks, of course, I know how to say cheers because I use it every time when I drink Czech beer.
The castle is an interesting place, after that, we went to see other stuffs, such as brewing equipment, and some puppets. Those puppets were made to show how was going on in the Middle Ages.
After visiting this Castle, the next stop was Škoda Factory. The factory is so clean that I didn't believe what I just saw. All producing procedure is almost automatic which showed the highly developed industry in the Czech Republic. The most interesting part was the exhibition hall of all old cars. Some of them must have been very old but we can still see the soul of an old car. This exhibition took you 50 or 70 years back – into the time when car was only for the rich. We also stayed a while in assembling line, also, they were clean, and the workers seemed so happy about their job. Maybe...because the salary is very good in Škoda.
Then, we went back to Dětenice castle for unbelievable dinner. The food was in a unique and wonderful medieval style. We also enjoyed Slavic dancers on tables. WOW, we were entertained by jugglers, swordsmen, fakir monk and beggars, witch burning, knife throwing at live target. Hank and I, my Taiwanese friend, enjoyed the food and the shows, we never saw this kind of show in Taiwan. I think it is even very rare in the Czech Republic.
I want to give my gratitude to Tom ( Mr. President). I really appreciate him for his effort during the tour. After I go back to Taiwan, I will tell my friends how it is like in the Czech Republic. Thank you Czech people!!
